Homemade egg roll in a bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free option)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • 1 small head cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium carrots, julienned
  • 4 green onions, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Recipe Directions

  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat the sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground pork and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  2. Add the garlic and ginger to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and Sriracha sauce (if using), making sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  4. Add the sliced cabbage and julienned carrots to the skillet. Cook, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the sliced green onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve the Homemade Egg Roll in a Bowl hot, garnished with sesame seeds and fresh cilantro.

How to Store Leftovers

If you have any leftovers (though it’s unlikely!), you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Simply reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until heated through.

Food and Drink Pairings

Pair your Homemade Egg Roll in a Bowl with a light and refreshing side salad, steamed rice, or cauliflower rice for a complete meal. For drinks, consider serving it with a crisp white wine, such as Pinot Grigio, or a cold glass of green tea.
