Tacos Recipe

Instructions

Preparing the Taco Filling:

  1. Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it’s no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Season: Sprinkle the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper over the meat mixture. Stir well to evenly coat the meat with the spices.
  4. Simmer: Add the tomato sauce and water to the skillet. Stir well to combine. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated and the mixture is thick. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Assembling the Tacos:

  1. Prepare Taco Shells: If using hard shells, warm them in the oven according to the package instructions. For soft tortillas, you can warm them in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side or wrap them in a damp cloth and microwave for about 20 seconds.
  2. Fill Tacos: Spoon the beef filling into the taco shells. Start with a modest amount to ensure you have enough room for your toppings.
  3. Add Toppings: Top the beef with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, and any other toppings you like. A dollop of sour cream and some guacamole or diced avocado add creaminess. Sprinkle with fresh cilantro and squeeze lime juice over the top for extra freshness.
  4. Serve: Serve the tacos immediately, accompanied by lime wedges and sliced jalapeños for those who like it spicy.

Tips:

  • Variations: Feel free to customize the fillings and toppings based on your preferences. Grilled vegetables, black beans, or corn make great additions for vegetarian options.
  • Make Ahead: The beef filling can be made in advance and refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat thoroughly before serving.

Enjoy your homemade tacos with family and friends!
