Braised Beef Short Ribs

Kitchen Equipment Needed

To make braised beef short ribs, you’ll need the following kitchen equipment:

  • Dutch oven or large, oven-safe pot
  • Tongs
  • Chef’s knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Aluminum foil

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds beef short ribs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 2 bay leaves

Recipe Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Season the short ribs with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the short ribs and sear them on all sides until browned, about 8 minutes total. Remove the ribs and set aside.
  4. Add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic to the Dutch oven. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Return the short ribs to the pot. Add the beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, thyme, rosemary, and bay leaves.
  6. Cover the pot and transfer it to the oven. Cook for 2 ½ to 3 hours, or until the meat is tender and falling off the bone.
  7. Remove the pot from the oven and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes before serving.
